Tips and Tricks for Virtual Table Top Games - FIXED

Can anyone share their techniques they are using to use Syrinscape for a VTT game. I know Ben mentioned using a virtual audio driver but I havent found one yet for windows 8. Can anyone recommend a virtual audio driver and other tricks they are using to get their Syrinscape streaming through the internet?

Thanks!

Yes, please do share. It’s not something I’ve spent lots of time working out as I have NEVER played on-line yet.

Hey, I started looking into this, and I reckon the best way might be to do a Twitch Broadcast, which people can then tune into while they play. That way you can get really good audio quality without disturbing the rest of the play chatter…

I’ll look into it further and see if I can come up with some kind of tutorial thingy.

Hi all, Very recently this came up during an exchange with Ben when I was having problems purchasing a sound pack. I told him I use Syrinscape for games on roll20, and he asked how I did it. I believe he is working on creating a tutorial video and/or better instructions, but this is what I sent him:

Here is the set-up I use:

I use an audio mixer called “VoiceMeeter” from here: http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/Voicemeeter/index.htm. It is donation-ware, so it can be tried out fully before supporting the developer.

I also use his virtual audio cable driver (http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/Cable/index.htm)

I set “Voicemeeter input” as my default audio playback device.

Then in google hangouts, I set “Voicemeeter output” as the microphone, and the “Cable input” from the VB-Audio virtual cable as the speaker.

I launch Syrinscape (and also a browser to the star wars sound board for my Star Wars game for its sound effects). The audio for these will now go to the virtual cable (since it is my default playback device now).

Then I launch Voicemeeter and set the first hardware input to my microphone on my headset, the Cable output (from VB cable) as the second hardware input, and the hardware out to my speakers/headphones.

With this configuration, anything set to output A in voicemeeter goes to my headphones, and anything on output B goes to the hangout.

So I set hardware 1 (my microphone) to go to B (I can also turn on A if I want to hear myself).

Hardware 2 is set to A only (this is the audio from the other hangout participants, so obviously sending it to B would cause a loop and feedback issues),

The virtual input is set to A and B so my players and I can hear sound from syrinscape (and the sound board).

It works great for us. I used “case study 1” from the voicemeeter user manual to learn how to set this up. http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/Voicemeeter/Voicemeeter_UserManual.pdf They have it as music shared to a skype call, but it is the same thing.

Thanks @david_walls!

Yes, David’s instructions work well. Once we get the PC SoundSets out and the new version of the Player is working and launched I’ll have a go at making a really nice Video tutorial.

HINT: David’s technique is reasonably easy + FREE

At any point in David’s above steps, do you switch your default audio playback device back to “speakers”? Or leave it as “voicemeeter input” for entire session?

We use Syrinscape with Fantasy Grounds and Teamspeak - there’s a very good Wiki Page on using Syrinscape with Teamspeak on the Fantasy Grounds Wiki (written by my not so humble self) - the link is here; http://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/Linking_TeamSpeak_%26_Syrinscape - its fully explained how we do things there (including answering your question @schneiderpants

Also check out the thread on these Forums entitled “Integrating Syrinscape with Fantasy Grounds” (also by me)

Thanks, your suggestions and protips #7 and #8 were all very helpful. Syrinscape is running beautifully through a 2nd teamspeak channel (1st is my voice chat) and using some of roll20s sounds/music to augment.
