Web Player Not Compatible with Chrome Extension: Auto Quality for YouTube

I came across a strange “bug” that only recently started to become a problem.

Yesterday while trying to access the web player in chrome, I discovered that the client side code was crashing out and the UI would hang:

Source of the problem:
I use an extension called Auto Quality for YouTube™ – Version 2.1.0
and that apparently does not play well with the online player. Disabling the extension or configuring it to only activate on certain sites was my successful workaround.

This is on Chrome Version 130.0.6723.70 (Official Build) (64-bit)

They were working well together prior to yesterday, but maybe this latest version of Chrome is the change that caused the issue?

Thought I would share the info for others.

Very useful, clearly expressed info.
This may well help us helping some others via the support emails too. :fire: :fire_engine:

Was there a specific sympton that might be recognisable by people (before opening the inspector)? Just hanging on the circles going round?

Note this: @Steve

Thanks for your reply Benjamin.

Yes, the first most obvious symptom is that after you clicked the button “Click to Start”

It would spin and hang as in my previous posting.

It would never resolve and start playing music.

Thanks for the specific info and screenshots.

We haven’t seen anyone else with that prob yet… so I suppose usage of that extension is fairly rare?

Either, we are armed now well to support people.
