Questions About Buying Soundsets and SoundSet Creator - FIXED

I’ve tried out the free soundsets for the Fantasy module of Syrinscape and am satisfied enough to make a purchase, but I have a couple of questions before I put my money where my mouth is:

  1. I’ve noticed that some of the soundset packs available for purchase seem to utilize the same soundsets as others, for example the Storm soundset is available as a standalone purchase but is also in the SoundSet Pack II and the Geek & Sundry’s Critical Role Goblin Raid.

Have you got any advice on this? I know the obvious answer is “pay for a subscription”, but I’m old-fashioned and want to own what I buy rather than lease it for a while(though the supersyrin subscription is making me doubt that position). Will there be future packs, similar to the ones already existing, that contain everything, or will one have to pick and choose what to buy oneself to ensure you don’t pay twice for the same thing?

  1. I’ve noticed the same thing with actual sounds, but I have a slighty smarter question: will there be a sound/music collection pack available for purchase later when the Syrinscape SoundSet Creator is released, so you can mix and create your own soundsets without buying the readymade soundsets?

  2. Is it or will it be possible to add your own sound effects into SyrinScape? For example adding your own sound effects into a custom soundset, adding mp3s for easy access and volume balancing inside the program, and/or adding your own music/ambient sound in a fileformat that is compatible with Syrinscape? I dabble a bit in writing music myself and would be interested in making something just for my players. The seamless looping of syrinscape is a nice feature and would make it sound more natural, instead of me having to press replay every 3-4 minutes.

It’s a long post with a lot of questions, but I figured maybe others would appreciate seeing any answers.

Thank you for your time!

Hey @Oscillate,

I’m just a fellow user but thought I’d offer up some of my thoughts:

  1. The packs come out every so often and to my knowledge are at a set price so they don’t reduce in price if you already own some of the sets included (though Ben is awesome & always willing to talk about it) I know you joke about it yourself but actually a sub really is the best option. The basic sub cost $6 a month and gives you full access to the back catalogue for the Fantasy player but it also gives you ownership of ALL sets that come out whilst subbed. On average we get 2-3 sets a month so subbing is cheaper than purchasing. With a Supersyrin sub, you pay $10 per month and get all sets for the Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Board Game players. Therefore, that’s about 4-8 sets a month which individually would cost you $3.50 each to buy. Moreover, with the sub you get access to the Creator AND all of the community created content.

  2. This one really needs @Benjamin to answer but to my knowledge the answer is no. As a Supersyrin subscription, you get the full catalogue AND the Syrinscape Creator. Anything we create on the Creator is stored on the server so we will always have to pay some kind of subscription for that. I therefore assume that the model will remain the same (I may be very wrong!).

  3. YES totally!!! With the Syrinscape Creator, you can totally edit existing sets, create new ones and add completely new content. You can create sets for just yourself (and your players) or create sets which you can share with the whole community. The more people that use the Creator, the more content we all get to play with.

I create soundsets myself and I have to say that the creator is a fantastic tool. It’s still in Beta and still definitely has its problems but its well worth sticking with and helping the devs develop the tool. Plus did I mention its awesome!!!

Hope this helps.

Thanks @Caldeth,

Hi @Oscillate.

Yes, everything @Caldeth said.

Yes, the SuperSyrin which is what you need to run the Creator gives you access to EVERY sound within the creator, so you are free to mix and match everything there, and add in all your own sounds etc.

If you want to buy some packs and already own something in one of them, just contact me and I can swap whatever you want out.

I think that covers everything you wanted to know?

Ask more questions; you ask good ones!
