Online Player vs Linking in Fantasy Grounds Confusion

I appear to be having multiple problems. A few days ago, I had SyrinScape linked to Fantasy Grounds Unity, was able to generate sounds from the links, and trigger them in the linked player through the browser, and successfully generate an invitation which the players could use. They could hear the sounds properly.

Today, everything stopped working, so I went to the Control Panel thinking to reauthorize things, and discovered a computer connected to my account which was not mine. I deauthorized the computer, and changed my password. I also deauthorized my own machine, intending to refresh everything, but now I can’t seem to get it reauthorized. I do not have a SuperSyrin account (although I did previously). Lately, I purchase my packs as I need them, and prior to this incident, Fantasy Grounds and Syrinscape were working together very well.

Now I can’t get the machine authorized again, without updating to a free trial or activating a Super Syrin account, it seems? Or am I doing something wrong?

I am using the directions from the Fantasy Grounds WIKI located here:
https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/2078932993/Using+Sound+Links#:~:text=Now%20you%20just%20need%20to,sound%20file%20to%20your%20computer.

This does not say that I need to go through the Online Web Player, which I’m gathering is different than the page I use to link the players (example below)

So why do I now seem to have to access the Online Web Player to do this?

If I’m understanding correctly, I have to link my computer to the account, and THEN link Fantasy Grounds to the account as well, with the Online Web Player being a go-between, but a few days ago, it was working without my having to do this?

Any help would be appreciated. I have a game coming up on Saturday, and would like to have this working by then.

Hiya,

Soooo… you WILL need a SuperSyrin to playback sound through the Syrinscape Online Player.

You will NOT need a subscription to playback sound through the Web Player = app.syrinscape.com

If you open up that window are you able to play sound there and control the sound via those old links in FG?

Make sure the authorization key in FG is the same as your “Auth Token” in the Syrinscape control panel. This is what allows FG to send play requests to your instance of the app.syrinscape.com. Then import the sounds into FG. Details here: Using Sound Links - Fantasy Grounds Customer Portal - Fantasy Grounds

Once you’re double-checked that FG has the same authorization key as your Syrinscape “Auth Token”, click the “Invite” button in Fantasy Grounds and open the Syrinscape app from the links created in FG chat. This will open an instance of app.syrinscape.com specifically linked to your account (via the auth token). Try playing some Syrinscape sounds/music/moods from within FG - they should play in the instance of app.syrinscape.com you just opened.

I guess I must have the Beta player of the online player still installed. I was able to use it to reauthorize my account. After I did that, I made sure the tokens matched everywhere, and I was able to get sound again - although I had to regenerate everything, and generate a new player link.

I’m putting sounds into a module containing spell triggers for my players. Opened the module to work on it tonight, and again, I have no sound through the web player, even using the old link. I don’t know what’s happening. It worked fine for two or three weeks - now it’s erratic.

EDIT: Should I have to regenerate a new link to the web player each session? I had to generate a new session ID and a new weblink, before it would play again.

I’ve done that. For some reason, it’s not even playing the sounds in FG anymore. I click something, and it no longer shows as playing in Sound Context window… no matter what I click, nothing works.

When I go into my online control panel. I see a lot of this:

Even though I haven’t disconnected in any way.

Just do it once. Otherwise you’ll need to re-enter the token in FG after you create a new session ID.

When you first play a sound in FG does the URL prompt window appear?

Assuming it does, are the disconnect messages in the Syrinscape control panel showing one for each unsuccessful play of a sound within FG? If so, it sounds like something might be blocking the communication from FG to Syrinscape.

If the disconnect messages just appear without trying to play anything in FG, then that is a disconnect from the app.syrinscape.com web player - which could point to a browser or firewall issue.

It does, but I’m on a Mac, so it always comes up blank. It’s just an empty window, and I have to guess that the first button is permitting it to open a website. (Usually I hit the first button assuming it says ‘Accept’, and the website opens, so I guess it’s working.). I reported that as a bug last year, I think.

I don’t know what it could be. I actually turned off my firewall and tested without it, and it does the same thing. Weird that this wasn’t happening, and then suddenly began happening.

Also, one of the problems I seem to be having, is that when I do a Web Import, into Fantasy Grounds, it seems to be importing sound sets I do not have.

After much playing-around, I realized that every sound that wasn’t playing at all (independent of the above problem), was from Tales from the Wastes 2. When I opened my fantasy player, TfTW is not showing as a purchased set for me. I’m not sure why the web import thought it was?

As near as I can tell, everything else imported is something I own.

Your last post seems to suggest that the FG-Syrinscape integration is working, when you play sounds that you own. I’m now confused as to what the actual issue/s you’re having currently are. Can you play sounds, or are you still having the issue reported in the initial post? Or is it intermittent? Or are there other issues you’re experiencing?

I think the problem is that I’m confused. Odd things keep happening, and I don’t know what’s related to what, so I’m not sure what to bring up to help troubleshoot the issue. Sorry!

So first: I noticed an account that was not mine, linked to my account. Since I thought that only one computer could be linked at a time, I worried that someone else being linked had disconnected me, and that was why my sound was not originally working.

Second: I kept having trouble getting the web player to work. I would play something, and I wouldn’t see the equalizer, or hear anything. I had to regenerate the web link several times, and then finally it worked. It seems to be rather hit or miss. I’m half expecting it to not work again when I open the campaign.

Third: I was having problems understanding the difference between the Online Player and the Web Player, and I wasn’t certain if that was why my sound wasn’t working properly.

I do finally have it working again, although I’m not sure how I did it, or why it’s working again. But it worked in the campaign tonight for the first time, and my players thought it was great.

In the process of getting it working, I noticed that the web import pulled in a sound set that I don’t actually own. I on’t know why it pulled that in, but I kept trying to use those sounds and they weren’t working. I didn’t realize why till I opened my fantasy player and discovered I didn’t own that set.

There’s just a lot of confusing things happening, and I don’t know why. Why did it pull in a sound set I don’t own? Is that normal behavior? I have some other questions, but I’ll make separate threads for those to avoid further confusion, lol

I’ll jump in here with some answers though I am not 100% brilliant about the FGU aspect of things:

web import pulled in a sound set that I don’t actually own

Most weeks we give FREE access to the content we are releasing that week for people to try. So I’m guessing you pull the list, and then tried to playback content from that list AFTER it then disappeared the next week? Maybe?

Online Player and the Web Player

The Web Player plays Directly in a Browser at app.syrinscape.com
The Online Player is an App you install.
Note: you can use the Web Player withOUT a sub.
You need a SuperSyrin sub to use the Online Player.

You link FG to your account using the Auth Token found here:
https://syrinscape.com/online/cp/
Once you’ve done that, anything you trigger in FG will play in any Online Players you have linked and running (which you can’t do because you don’t have a SuperSyrin) AND sounds will also play in any Web Players you have running when you are signed in as YOU (the person who’s Auth Token you used.

Share Audio link

DON’T put this into FG. This is what you use to share any audio you are playing (trigger right on the Web Player OR triggered by FG).

How’s all that? Makes enough sense?

KEEP asking questions.
