Conversion to Wave ---- What's everybody using?

Hi There… just getting around to trying the beta out…and want to assemble something for my upcoming Curse of the Crimson Throne campaign, using some ultra-long Dark Fantasy tracks.

I know I have to convert the files from MP3 to Wav (44.1K and 16bit), but I don’t seem to have a tool that can do this…and I really don’t want to use any online convertors (if I can avoid it).

Thoughts/Suggestions?

Probably not the most conventional way but I play the MPs through Audacity and record the playback as WAV 44k hz, 16-bit. I know there are automated ways to do it but like you I won’t use a online tool and this way means I can adjust the start/end times or make my own fades easily. Plus Audacity is free

I just downloaded audacity to give it a whirl… but I’m getting the sense it isn’t what I’m looking for.

I’ll give it a try anyways…

Audacity should be able to do the conversions pretty easily. Just load the MP3 in, and then export it as the format you want. You can get fancy with it, choosing just sections of songs, but by default it’ll export everything.

  1. Drag MP3 into Audacity window
  2. Choose File -> Export Audio
  3. In the dialog, choose “WAF (MIcrosoft) signed 16 bit PCM”
  4. Hit “Save”
  5. Delete the track (X in the corner of the music) and repeat.

Admittedly, I haven’t tried importing into Syrinscape after doing this, since I’m on a Mac and imports aren’t working right now. But that’s the process.

Thanks for that Bobson, I just tried it and it worked perfectly. Much quicker than the way I was doing it before!

The quickest way I know is to use Adobe Audition’s batch convert. You can do 100 files at once with just a few clicks.

(but I think it’s pretty expensive) I get it as a part of my Creative Suite subscriptions (which is pretty expensive)!

I use Audacity and it works great. The only ‘gotcha’ is to make sure that there is NO meta-data when you export to the WAV. I check every meta-data field to be sure before I hit ‘go’, and I haven’t had any problems with Audacity.

I’ve just upgraded to Cubase but yeah I’ve been using Audacity and it does a pretty good job plus it’s free

The metadata issue is frustrating but thankfully easy to work around (as long as you remember!) converted a few batches and forgot to remove it so had to start again

Wavelab is good and free too.

We ARE working on the metadata glitch… it’s REALLY annoying! :hankey:

Using Audacity with no meta data when I create a .wav and export it at the correct setting then it plays fine in the sample folder but when I drag it onto the element (Where it says drop here) it doesn’t stay? What am I doing wrong?

Fixed - Just needed to add some licensing info

I’m using OGG and is working just fine.

Audacity. No meta data. Standard!
