Syrinscape freezes on opening (MacOS)

Hello,

sorry to bother, but I don’t really know what happened. Yesterday all of my Syrinscape players just stopped working.
As soon as I open the app, it loads (with the greyed out new PBSO: Rift free soundset as first page) and it just sits there, unresponsive, and I have to force shut it. The same happens with the Sci-Fi Player.
I tried downloading it again, but the issue keeps repeating itself.
I really hope you can help me!

Thank you for your report!

I discussed this with @jakoov via direct message and together we found that the new version of the players (1.5.0-p1) resolves this freezing on launch behaviour that seems to be an incompatibility between the version of Unity running on version 1.4.13-p0 and the somewhat recent macOS Sonoma release.

In short, for the benefit of anyone else experiencing this, they can try upgrading and see how you go!

(extra details of the changes in the version upgrade can be found here: [Master Interface/Players] Now with less installing, unless of course you want to DOWNLOAD EVERYTHING!)

Hi Ryan! I found this thread because I’m having the same issue, but I just downloaded the app today and have version 1.5.0-p1. It was working before I purchased the monthly subscription to the fantasy bundle - could that have broken something somehow? This is the desktop player, MacOS, Sonoma 14.6.1.

Howdy!
If I recall correctly, this particular issue was a problem with the version of the Unity engine the app was built with, so it impacted all apps the same and was not dependant on any particular piece of content being available. Are you able to use either of the other Offline Players? Sci-Fi Player, or Board Game Player? They should be available on the download page (you might need to select the correct tab above the Player icon).

It is possible there is an issue with some piece of content, but in that case I would expect it to impact everyone, I am not aware of any other reports, and I just tested launching the Fantasy Player and it seemed to work okay.
If you find the other Players work okay, we can try clearing your local data for the Fantasy Player, which for you I think would be:

  1. Make sure all instances of Syrinscape are closed.
  2. Inside the Go menu item in Finder, select Go to Folder....
  3. Paste in “~/Library/Application Support/Syrinscape”.
  4. Move the “Syrinscape Fantasy Player” folder outside of that folder.
  5. Try launching Syrinscape again.

This should try to redownload all the content fresh, so may take a little time to start up, but hopefully that gets you going again. Let me know if it does not!
